    👍 Well described again, and also informing those viewers that using the mast grasp area as the rig is in the process of swinging is very beneficial.

      @tomasnilsson7818 День назад

      I tried to grab the mast today but I´m non convinced I prefer it. You have less power I feel when you swing the sail with the mast grip and I found it hard to swing back and also less control whn going in to the tack.

    Excellent description of the gybing actions and techniques, and as I'd been a registered Windsurfing instructor myself who'd run my own Windsurfing school during the mid 1980s I knew how to perform them and gave identical tuition to My own customers.

    Yes - agree. Also can do the "strap-to-strap" so that you don't change your feet mid-face. I haven't done a step gybe in 20 years unless sub-planning. Doesn't have to be a slam gybe, does it Dieter?...Anyway, excellent advice.

    The video is very clear in itself, but I don't understand why Dieter keeps saying to 'cross over the swell that is downwind'. He doesn't do that in any of the clips?! It also doesn't make any sense to me, because you would have to climb over the back of the swell to cross it, which would kill your speed.

    First thanks for sharing riders secrets ! Minor point: I don't see the different techniques between in and out, they seem to be exactly the same. More important, I would be grateful if one day you prepare and post a video on how to jibe in very strong winds. We see pro riders in some gusty races that are forced to grab the mast with the back hand as soon as it has left the boom, so acting differently from your current video, and I believe they have some other survival tips I long for !

    • @rcggijzen
      @rcggijzen Месяц назад

      A tip I got during a private lesson in Tenerife this year, was if you need to gybe but can't really go as fast as the wind (because you are stuck on chop or you are way overpowered), instead of doing the 'normal' oversheeting by pulling in the back hand (you won't be able to because there is too much power in the sail) just let go of the back hand early, let the sail rotate and concentrate on completing the carve with the speed you have and assistance from the wave.

    • @Gilloup
      @Gilloup Месяц назад

      @@rcggijzen You mean that you take your back hand out the wishbone early in the turn and drive the board only with the front hand ?

    • @rcggijzen
      @rcggijzen Месяц назад

      @@Gilloup Exactly. You dump the power of the rig really early by releasing the back hand while entering the gybe on a broad reach (instead of oversheeting). Usually you don;t want to do this, because the nose will lift and you loose speed on the entry, but if you are way overpowered and can't go fast enough to match the wind-speed, this is a good coping mechanism. You need to move forward a bit to compensate for the loss of mast-foot-pressure. The wave can help you carry enough speed to complete the carve onto the new tack.

    What if it's cross shore wind, you take off at 45 degrees to the wind but at the apex of the jump the bottom of your board is not yet pointing directly into wind. How to get it there? Only once board is dead into wind does spotting the landing seem to help the rotation.

    You have addressed almost all of the problems I have with the tack. The problem I think I have left is that I’m kind of short, and it seems like if you had longer arms and legs it would be easier. For example, with my back foot just behind the front foot straps and my front foot in front to the mast, y legs are kind of far apart. It feels like I have to make a big step up to get up around the mast, which throws off my balance. Also, staying away from the sail during the flip isn’t easy. It just seems to come upright rather than staying low. Anyway, I’m going to work on this now. Maybe I’ll get it

    Yes thats true. I think the first gybe in the video shows it best. He carves hard on the top, which will lose some speed and then he sails clew first down the wave changes his feet and then flips the sail. Will try it next time out.

    Do most people sail there barefoot?

    • @TWSWindsurf
      @TWSWindsurf 3 месяца назад

      Yes, still most of people sail barefoot. Few helpful tricks: - While water starting close to the rocks, it's better not to stand on the bottom even if you are able to do so. Try to water start as if you were in deep water, keeping your legs flat and close to the surface. - Try not to end up too close to the rocks, where you would need to stand up once there is not enough water to keep the fins from hitting the rocks. - If you end up close to the rocks, walk slowly to the beach. Use the moments between waves to take another step carefully when you can see more of the bottom and decide on a safe place to step. Try to chose flatter rocks to step on.
